Segmented Flow Chemistry - Screening and Optimization
♦ Low Reagent Usage
Segmented flow chemistry enables the rapid screening of reactant materials with microliter levels so only a small amount of precious and expensive starting materials are used. Unlike continuous flow chemistry systems that require 2.5 times the reactor volume of reagent, in segmented flow the reactor volume is independent to the segment volume. Therefore only the exact stoichiometric required volume is metered into the segment - NO EXCESS. Individual reactant volumes within a segment can be as low as 20 µL.
♦ High Throughput
Experimental throughput is dramatically increased using segmented flow methodology. Using a serial/parallel segment preparation and injection process, segments that share that same temperature and residence times can be process serially such that multiple segments are in the reactor simultaneously. Throughput over continuous flow systems can be as much as 10 times faster.
